They had the opportunity visit the village, the mine and to distribute school kits to the school’s 155 students, funded by CARCO and Glory Mica to support the fight against child labor in mica mines.
The mayor of the town of Beraketa, the village elders, and the entire community expressed their gratitude for giving the children a chance at a better future and helping the miners move a step closer to a mine that complies with standards, thereby ensuring the sustainability of their operations.
In addition to construction and the kits, the two organizations also cover the salaries of the two teachers in charge of preschool and elementary school for one year, as well as the cost of their training and monthly follow-up provided in collaboration with the CISCO in Bekily, the regional representative of the Ministry of Education. The goal is to ensure that the school actually functions and enables the children to earn their diplomas upon completing their studies.
In addition to monitoring the school's operations on a monthly basis and reporting on them, RIMCO will work with the mining community through FEFI (the parents' association) to enable them to gradually finance and manage the school using their revenue from mica and a savings system developed with its partners.
