In August and September, two children of our workers in South Amboasary died of malaria—not because there was no hospital, but because of ignorance and superstition.
As a responsible company, we have a duty to educate our workers about access to public health services, alternative healthcare options, and women’s health and well-being.
Two awareness-raising sessions were held in September
1. Thanks to our MoU with the Amboasary Atsimo Public Hospital, Dr. Anicet and his team educated employees on the importance of seeing a doctor when sick and not relying solely on traditional medicines, which can worsen their condition. He also explained that treatment for certain diseases—such as malaria, mpox, and HIV, as well as access to family planning, vaccination, and prenatal care, are free at the hospital. He then provided nutrition advice to workers and children based on the resources available to them.
2. In collaboration with TSENAOW, we distributed reusable sanitary pads free of charge to our female employees to improve their hygiene and comfort at work, since disposable pads represent a significant expense for them and reduce their income during their menstrual periods—as they are forced to stay home because they cannot afford to buy them, and the alternatives available to them were often unsuitable.
